i have a hard drive that fits in the ps2 but it doesnt show up next to my memory cards... is it supposed to? is there any way to get linux on the ps2 w/o the ps2 linux disk cuz it is sold out in North America thanks

Only the original $ony drive will show up in the browser. To take advantage of the HDD, you need to be able to boot backups or have an MC exploit.

That means you could do with software such as HD Advance oR HD Loader. You can't buy HD Loader anymore though so you would need a method of booting a bck-up of it (downloaded). HD Advance is comercially available ( google it). This will Re-format your HDD into the correct PS2 format. Any data on it already will be lost as is the case when you re-format any drive but it wont work in the PS2 unless you let HD Advance (or HDL) format it.
