I have been using datawrite 4x media in my Sony dru-500a but they only write at 2x.Has anybody else had this problem.

It has something to do with the burner not acknowledging cheaper media... suxs

Yeah, sux a lot.
since the 2.0f firmware "upgrade" I have lost the ability to burn at 4x on the cheaper media.
So yes, others have had this happen. It appears that the media that works at 4x is what is on the sony recommended media list (ie their corporate partners). here's the list
