Okay, I installed a new MB (VIA) into an Intel computer. It wouldn't recognize the new MB with the restore disks from the manufact, so I formatted the HD and installed XP Pro from a Windows disk. I also installed muBlinder b/c of personal reasons. So everything seems to be working except Windows won't update. I went to the Windows site to try to update, it started to, but it won't download Genuine Advantage. When trying to verify, it says you've encountered an unexpected error, please contact your local support team. I checked the update history on the same site, it says Genuine Advantage was cancelled (grey circle). I know the cd is good, it's the same one I used on my other computer. I'm lost on this one. Sorry if I forgot to put any info needed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Hi.
I don't know if this helps, but I never use IE for windows updates due to similar problems. I read a post from Tom Melee ages ago and now use fire fox to get them . Take a look at this recent thread for the links. I realise this doesnt address your problems directly, however it is a work around.

Thanks guys, I always use FireFox for internet, but this is the first I've heard of this work around. I'll try it when I get off work. Just so I know, this works if you've already installed genuine advantage, right? Thanks again. What would I do without aD?

If you have read all the troubles with windows genuine advantage tool(like it checks your XP is genuine and rejects some that are genuine along with those that are not) then you would stop your machine downloading and installing that update anyway.
Yeah, I custom install all my updates, but it ended up being downloaded anyway (gotta love the old lady for helping out). So now I'm trying to deal with the aftermath.
