iv had my sm disks for 18 months with no problems, all of a sudden it wont boot my sm dvd v2, it got to the playstation 2 screen then tries to load to insert disk but cant and after a while it goes to the memory card and disk option or says no data. i tried, for the first my sm cd v3.0 and that wouldnt work, and its never been used so is in perfect condition, the ps2 failed to load that in anyway. i cleaned my ps2, and the lens, no luck, and then adjusted the laser angle but still no change. Does anyone have any suggestions? is it my disks or laser? thanks

sounds like the laser, if you've cleaned it and adjusted it, then it's probably time for a new one :(
What media do you use to play your games? That could be the reason that your laser is dead...

But it was all of a sudden and it plays all my originials perfectly. I use taiyo yudens for my back ups. When i was adjusting the laser angle i moved it 8 clockwise and 12 anti clockwise, after that made no difference i gave up on changin it, is there any point keep going untill i make a full revolution?
cheers

well the problem is that originals are easier to read compared to backups... even TY.
shouldn't be a problem with SM... have you tried this? swap magic then original (i know there's no need, but to test if the swap magic is fine)

what do you mean? its the sm disk that wont load not the back ups, is it worth adjusting the laser angle even more?

yeah what i'm trying to say is that if you can load your original (treat it as backup) using swap magic, then there's probably nothing wrong with your swap magic discs.
If it's not reading backups, then it's your decision whether you want to risk adjusting it so that it might read it (or kill the laser) or leave it as it is so you can only read originals

but i cant treat an originial as a back up because my sm disk wont load, the actuall sm disk itself wont boot, it gets to the ps2 logo screen but then cant get to the insert disk screen

ahh right, hmm have you tried the swap magic discs on another PS2? It could mean that the discs are scratched or something

and i'm afraid if i keep adjusting the white wheel or dvd screw i may kill the laser, any suggestions guys.

Hey Dan..
Dude, i Open the ps2 as i do every 2 months to clean the lense, but i knew i cleand it a few weeks ago, so after 2hrs and 37 mins of gently turning the Dvd screw, and putting the tray and dvd cover back on,and not resealing it,i finally reached nirvana, the swap magic coder 3.8 DVD disc now boot up,now i'm in back-up heaven.
thanks dan for your input,it was greatly appreciated.
i have one more question,do you or any one know if ps2 lasers are interchangable,i know they look slightly different, but the make up is the same, they connect the same, and the ribbon cable looks identical, just a thought, because i have several ps2's friends blew up,trying to modded.
peace out
