Hi...

I recently succesfully made a vcd by using Vcd Galaxy Combopack, the movie I copied was Sorority Boys, and I live in Australia so the dvd was encoded in Region 4. I followed the instructions that came with VcdGalaxy Combopack and i ended up with two mpeg files which I burnt onto two discs (1 on each), they were both good quality sound and video and I didnt have any problems watching them...

What I would like to know, I have just rented out "Minority Report" and ripped ALL the files on the disc onto a folder on my hard drive, the movie goes for longer than 2 hours and I know this movie will definately not fit onto 1 disc, only two, but for other movies is there any way at all I can just have a SINGLE DISC VCD and still maintain good enough sound and video quality without having to split the movie into two mpeg files and burn one file onto one disc, and one onto another? What programs do I use to do this? I have already ripped ALL the files off the dvd onto my hard drive so don't worry about telling me ripping software... I don't know what capacities of discs are available but I use 80min/700MB cds. After I copied Sorority Boys I was left with two high quality mpeg files which I could ALMOST fit onto one 700mb cd, so if I could just lower the quality (sound and video) a tiny bit, or change some settings, I'm sure in the future I can just use one disc instead of two.

By the way I am fairly new to this as you can probably tell, but my dvd player's manual says it only plays MP3/CD/DVD, but I tried a vcd and it played fine, I'm not sure if it would play S-VCDS or not but i dont feel like risking wasting more than 10 hours to find out so for the moment I will stick with VCD's.

I've been using "VCD Galaxy DVDRip Combopack" which came with "DVD Squeeze" and according to that, there are 3 parts to making a vcd/svcd from a dvd...
1. Ripping the files
2. Create the wav/d2v file
3. Encode final mpeg file(s)

If you can suggest better software/method then please do I need all the help I can get

Thanks for your help
-Brad

by the way, to sum that up, i want to know if i can fit a full movie (no more than 100 minutes) onto ONE 80min cd and still have it FULLSCREEN with acceptable video and audio quality.

Thanks (email: bigcookie_88@hotmail.com)

no...standard for vcd is 1150bps and if you go and lower that, most dvd players will not play them. you can go to mpeg4(like divx) but it will not play on a dvd player. You can get 2+ hours of divx on 1 cd with acceptable quality for playing on a pc.
