Want to start with thanking you for your time.
I installed a icon package software (that had worked nicely before) and got impatient as it was doing its things, I opened one too many other apps and ended up rebooting, and all I got was the shortcuts looking like paper and clicking on any program resulted in the message to choose the program on the web or from the list. I done some searck on KB and know there is no virus. I also put "%1" %* in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell. I am not very PC savy but am good in following directions.
Can someone PLEASE direct me to fix this problem.
BTW--Have run reg cleaner also.

What exactly does the the icon package do?
Does change icons, add, relocate, etc. I need to know what it does so I can give a suggestion.

Thanks--The icon package changes the look and feel of the icon including your ususal suspects on desktop such as my computer, explorer, etc.. The program is part of object desktop, but I only installed the icon package part of it and have uninstall it. I must say that I always could see explorer, my document, explorer, recycle bin and my network. And I've chose the XP style now

Well what might of happened was that when you rebooted the comp,as the prog was assigning the icons to the programs, you stopped that process. Try installing it again or physically choose every prog with the icon it goes with.
