Whenever I do a dvd with Nero, it allows me to do it in stereo, while the 5.1 facility stays greyed out. Anyone out there with an answer to this? I have tried to ask Nero, but they have been silent on the subject.

Are you sure it has a 5.1 stream? If it's a commercial DVD, it likely does. You could load up DVD Shrink and see if a 5.1 stream is displayed there as a check.

Just goes to show. A free bit of software every bit as good, if not better than Nero, on which I expended vast sums. Thank you for your input, which has proved of great value. You do good work.

You're welcome.

The same individual wrote both Nero Recode and DVD Shrink. Recode is really an updated Shrink. It usually works very well which probably means it has been corrupted somewhere along the line. See if doing a fresh install of Nero solves the problem.

Before reinstalling be sure to write down your Nero program serial number.

Run the Nero Clean Tool to remove all traces of Nero. Nero has stuff spread throughout all layers of the OS so this is the only way to purge all of it and get ready for a clean reinstall.

I don't know what version of Nero you have so I'll provide links to both Nero 6 and Nero 7 Clean Tools.

Probably the best version of Nero 6 is 6.6.0.18. It can be downloaded here:

For Nero 7, version 7.0.8.2 was recommended:
