ok, checked all the fuses and solder connections for shorts. everything looking good. i unsoldered the chip and the problem still persists. when i power the system up, the playstation logo will come up for a second and then the ps2 will keep resetting with both the power and the eject lights flashing. wondering if i messed up a chip somewhere. also checked the power ribbon cable to make sure its not broken. any suggestions?

Can you get the browser screen to come up? If so, it might be a problem with the laser. Try it with a DVD movie and a CD and a PS1 game and good PS2 game.

the browser screen will come up if the ps2 has been off for a long time, but shortly after starts flashing on and off. it acts like its overheating and wil just flash on and off after the first time when i turn it on and get the browser screen

Does the fan turn? It should start as soon as the machine is turned on. The other thing would be to retest the solder points on the BIOS chip with a multimeter.
