Hi. I need help. I am new to backing up my dvd's. I have had success so far except for one recurring problem. I am using DVD 4 Free and 1 Click DVD Copy. 4 discs have successfully burned but with my last one I keep getting an error message - "Error: media not found. Please place a (re)writeable media into the tray. Required free space estimation: 4.1 GB.". I have tried using a different disc and a larger disc but I get the same error. What might this problem be and how do I fix it? Thanks.

I originally used Memorex DVD-R 1-8X discs. They worked for 4 DVD's. The last one failed repeatedly on te DVD "4 Brothers". I thought maybe the discs were not big enough so I tried Fujifilm DVD +R DL. They did not work either.

Hello.

It's diffficult to know what's causing your problems for sure with the software you are using.

You might try download AnyDVD and installing that and see if that solves your problem with your current software.

http://www.slysoft.com (free 21-day trial)

If you want a one click solution for backing up your DVDs, Slysoft's CloneDVD2 is a pretty good program.

I'd guess most of us around here use free software, sometimes along with AnyDVD for backing up.

DVDFab Decrypter can be used to rip (copy) your DVD files to your HDD.
FixVTS or Vobblanker is used to "clean up" the ripped files.
DVD Shrink is used to compress or re-author the DVD.
DVD Decrypter is used to burn the files back to a blank DVD.

Links to software are in my signature.

Here's a guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154

There is also another free program, ripit4me, that automates the above process to an extent. Download and install DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and FixVTS and then download and run ripit4me to backup a DVD. ripit4me is available at this site:

http://www.ripit4me.org/

There is also a guide available for downloading there. Arniebear also has a guide here:

Memorex is pretty crappy media. Verbatim, Taiyo Tuden, and Made in Japan labeled media are recommended by most around here.
