Okay, I burned a dvd with success with DVD Shrink and Nero. Now when I went to go do another one, my D: drive is missing!!!! I restarted my computer and it showed back up and then I opened DVD Shrink again but when I closed it out, the drive went missing again!! HEEEEELLLPPPP!!! pretty please

Hello SimSeb.

What version of Nero are you using?

Are you using DVD Shrink to initiate the Nero burn?

Try unchecking enable burn with Nero:

Edit menu > Preferences... > File I/O tab > under burn settings uncheck enable burn with Nero

It did have the option to burn to Nero, but I hadn't even gotten to that point. DVDShrink had an error and said it had to close and then my drive disappeared. I rebooted, opened DVDShrink again, closed it to make sure and it disappeared again. Rebooted again and then used DVDFab to rip the movie to HDD. I was thinking of trying to compress with Nero since I have it and then burn it. But I need to read the tutorials first so I have an idea as to what I am doing. I am so new at this that it seems a bit overwhelming with all the different software/freeware etc.

Certain versions of Nero and DVD Shrink are incompatible which is why I asked what version of Nero you're using and also suggested going into Preferences and disabling the option to burn with Nero. That sometimes solves the problem.

Backups can be done with free software.

Rip with DVDFab Decrypter.
Process thru FixVTS or Vobblanker to clean the files.
Use DVD Shrink to re-author or compress the video files.
Burn to a blank disk with DVD Decrypter.

This process is somewhat automated with the use of a new program, ripit4me. Just download and install DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and FixVTS before downloading and running ripit4me. Ripit4me is available here:
