Need help with PSX backups on modded PS2

Hello all...I'm new to the scene, and have just acquired a modded PS2 secondhand. I have no idea what chip is in it, but it plays backup PS2 cds and DVDs, as well as brand new PS2 games. However, it doesn't play ANY PS1 discs. I'm trying to get some backup PS1 games to run (I still don't know if there is anything special I need to do about those), but I have just found out that the PS2 won't run ANY PS1 discs at all (copied or "new")!
Has anyone else dealt with a problem like this, and if so, PLEASE help!

hmm that's strange, you should be able to run originals at least... best way to tell what chip you have is to open up your PS2 and see inside

Try cleaning the lens. My brother had the same problem until we cleaned it.
