I have been having a problem with my slim ps2. I can load my memory cards and configue my ps2 fine but when i put a cd in the drive it will reset the ps2. I tried this a few times then left it off over night hen tried again. But still it didnt work.

I have read a lot about laser burning out and everything, i took to repairers and he said the laser has gone but he cannot find a new one...Im in Latvia.....Is there any recommeded websites i can buy the laser from in UK my friend lives there.

Or is there another solution than buying a new laser?

the ps2 wouldnt reset if the laser is stuffd its most probably sumtin else do you have a modchip???

cant be the laser if it were it would take you to tha browser n say reading disc for minutes and then say discread error it wouldnt turn of and does it have a chip?? but if its a person you trust that looked at your ps2 listen to him but it dosent sound right that the ps2 would turn off when the lasersgone all mine did is say discread error

I just to to a local repairers. yes i have the natrix chip inside.

matrix chip*** What else could be the problem?

Could be a fake or faulty chip. There are a lot of matrix fakes out there. The PS2 would not reset if it had a burnt out laser ,so my guess is it is the modchip that is giving you the problems.

But the thing is it has been working fine for last few months and i have been upgrading the version via the internet aswell.

no has been no problems and working fine just one day i try then bang stop working

Does it turn completely off or does it go into stand-by mode? Perhaps there is something wrong with the switch so that it thinks that you are trying to power down when you're only trying to close it.

just got ps2 back from repair today...He couldn't fix it but also said he is not sure if it is laser mayby the chip?

Its a matrix chip, when i turn on ps2 without cd it loads to browser screen if then put cd bang 1 second and off to standby mode.

If i load with a cd it turns on and same time as matrix name on screen it turns off to stand-by.

Is there any combinations i can use to reset bios on chip or something i can try?

Then you might have a problem cause you cant put the bios if you tried ot it will switch off, it sorta sounds like sumtin to do with your chip or power

your chip might not be functioning properly

the power is greater than needed because of something faulty in your ps2 when it trys to read a disc too much power and it switches off

this isnt like anyhting ive heard before did it do this straight away afta you got it chipped?

no it jus started happening week or so ago thats why i took into repair. There was no problem at all. Im using the ps2 in latvija bought in UK but all same power from us and everything using original plug and all.

how would you get into the bios? you have to use cd?

The last time we used was to watch a dvd movie then when we put movie 2nd it start problems.

I just went into the configuration menu of the chip and got this...

green fix - off
dvdvideo region - 8
DVD9 DL Support - off
Boot mode - auto

Ok update just been playing around and very very strange....It plays the oringal game BASS MASTER FISHING....The disk is very dark blue and it loads fine.

Driver 3 and other orignals and chipped games not work but this only game yes???????

What the hell is wrong making me crazy!

Just to update the orignal cd that work was a CDR not DVD......All of the dvd discs do not work chipped or original BUT CDR's are working the original and copied!!!!

So is there something in options or is it laser?

i find this in another thread on this forum

CD/CD-R games boot but not DVD/DVD-R
It is likely that one of the following causes applies:

1. The W wire or the R may be incorrectly connected.
2. The laser lens is dirty & should be cleaned with a cleaning disk or a cotton swab. The DVD is read at a higher frequency than a CD and results are more sensitive to a dirty lens.
3. The laser needs re-calibrating because of wear and tear. This is a complex process separately described in an FAQ article.
4. The laser needs replacement because of severe wear & tear.
5. On v5/v6 models, the CLK wire needs attention as per a later article in this guide.

The W and/or R wires refer to those installed with a modchip. As far as the others they sound about right, doesn't mention anything about the quality of the discs themselves though. But it sounds like that wouldn't be the case in your situation, Try cleaning it and see if that helps.

i tried to clean lense with alchol but it done nothing.

The thing with my problem its not saying cannot read discs its just turning off to standby when i enter a dvd disc.

check if the chip's connectors are solderd on properly still
It could be a short circuit somewhere also
