i have some hub-printable TY DVD+Rs. i'm planning to get a printer that's capable of printing directly on them, but for now, i want to label them by other means. does anyone have experience with using sharpies on the printable media then printing over it? will the sharpie marks still show or affect the printing ink at all once i use a printer to print over?
I've tried this a couple times and found that depending on the design of the cover that is printing over the sharpie, it may be possible to see it. For example, if you write in black sharpie and try to print over it with a light color ink, then it may be possible to see the sharpie. Not in all cases, but in some. If you are going to buy a printer capable of direct-disc printing, get the Epson R220. It's less than $100 and is very reliable. I have this printer and went on Ebay and bought the Continuous Ink System for around $45 and enjoy it very much. The only way I can think to avoid all that is to go and buy some paper CD/DVD sleeves (the ones with the clear front insert) and label these. Just be sure to keep the discs in the right sleeve. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps!
thanks for the quick reply. it makes a lot of sense that certain parts would show, depending on the cover design. i've been leaning on the R220 myself. my current storage system is using one of these ( http://meritline.com/cd-dvd-510-holder-wallet-holders-wallets-ehj... ) and a spreadsheet that matches a number & title name. i was just scared i'd easily mix them up somehow.
thanks for the info teflonmyk. i was actually considering that application since i've seen it mentioned a couple times around the forum. i've been holding off dedicating time to cataloging all of my media because i just bought a macbook and didn't want to be stuck with something windows only. i need to find myself a cross platform solution that's better than a spreadsheet, but this application just looks awesome: http://www.delicious-monster.com/ (delicious library). it uses the built in iSight camera to scan the barcodes of my DVDs, games, CDs, etc and inputs the information for me. plus the interface/look of the application itself does look "delicious" .
yeah, those look exactly like the ones i get from meritline minus meritline's logo. i think lots of the stores (supermediastore, meritline, etc) put their own logo on these generic cases. i was thinking of prying off the logo on my current one. does this one have a logo stuck on it too? it's definitely a better price.
man if I would have known...... I bought 3 of the 600 to a case from supermediastore.com for $60.00 plus free shipping. I love these cases and I use DVD Profiler for cataloging my collection.
