If you are looking to buy a DVD burner, in my opinion Plextor makes the best product. They cost a bit more than the average burner but I feel are well worth it. If you are looking to buy based on cost, go to Newegg and pickup a Samsung or LiteOn for around $40. I don't think they match up to the Plextor but are good products in their own right. Hope this helps!

I think the LG might be a good buy. It can be booktyped to DVD-ROM and make your +R media more compatible to players, and I heard nothing but good news about them. I also heard favorable news about the Liteon drives...... I guess you can't go wrong, then! good luck.

My preference would be the LiteOn. They booktype too.
I have an older one that is still going strong.
I have no experince w/ LG's - so can't say on that one.

@madbkn
Post back the model # of the drives you're interested in. Other members may be using them and can give you their experience.

Both are excellent drives. My LG (5163D, external model of 4163B) is faster and much quieter than my LiteOn (1693SX, external model of 1693S), but the LG doesn't support quality scans and the LiteOn does...
