I put in an Anime DVD and wanted to watch it in WMP, but I got this message.

Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. Open Display in Control Panel, and then lower your screen resolution and color quality settings.

I'm not sure exactly what I need to do to be able to watch it.

hi Lucky,

ok, right-click on your desktop and select properties, then a dailog box should come up saying Display properties. then there are five tabs at the top of the dialog box which read, Themes,Desktop,Screen Saver,Apperance,Settings.
U want to select the Settings tab and at the bottom is where u can change the Screen resolution and Color qualities.

hope i explained it good enough to understand
i personaly use WinDVD to watch movies u have to pay for it though

I should've mentioned that I've already played around with all of those settings, and it didn't make a difference, whether I'm changing the right settings or not is another story. But the same message keeps popping up. I just thought I needed to download a codec or something. I've tried using Nero, but when I watch the DVD, it freezes all the time.

go to microsoft.com and download:

microsoft video decoder checkup utility(it is free)

I had the same problem you are having. Nero was shown NOT compatible with Win XP. Roxio was also NOT compatible with WinXP.

Note: do NOT get WinDVD, it is junk. I use the player from the above link and it has a great quality when playing dvd's.

when i use WinDVD the video is horrible, washed out, fuzzy.
