I have

Pioneer 104
Ricoh MP9120A
MSI Dragonwriter 48x Writer
40Gb HDD
Gigabyte GA7XtVE board
512Mb DDR RAM

If I burn at more than 1x i get write errors if i burn on the fly i get write/read errors anyone any ideas have tried fw 1.41, 1.33, 1.40 no luck yet with several media

I don't know exactly what's happenning to you, I have a 104 too and haven't had any problems at all since I started using RecordNowMax software. You might try shutting down all other active programs to avoid interference during the burn process; Microsoft's instant messanger and updating software drove me nuts until I disabled it, it was causing burn problems due to intermittant activity when I was trying to record disks. I am also using firmware 1.33, and the suppossedly crappy princo 2x blanks and haven't had any problems with either. I DID have problems with disks burned using both roxio and nero's software, though, as many of them won't 'read' on other dvd drives. You might try other burning programs such as the one I am using. I originally found it on Kazaa, and after trying it and finding out that it worked exactly as described, bought it. I know it might seem like a waste because we get a burning program with the drive, but I considered all the time wasted because of nero and roxio and decided to toss their programs in the trash. easy cd creator was a great program when it first came out; it's usefullness topped out with easy cd creator pro and then started downhill. Now it installs itself to run all the time in the background, and eats up memory and resources as well as interfering with other programs. Somewhere around version 4 it began to suck. They must have fired their original programmers and hired imbecile relatives to fill the positions.

Try 1.31 from www.firmwares.co.uk This is hacked firmware but works fine on my 104 at 2x with Nero.
