hey....
i am looking for good long lasting media..
but i am frm india.. so not all types of brands are available..
i went to the market and every1 told me to go for either moserbaer or sony...
brands like verbatim, maxell, tdk are not available.. taiyo yuden is unheard of...
i burnt 2 movies.
one on a moserbaer DVDR- and one on a sony DVDR-.... (@ 2.4 x & 2x)
there were like 1 or 2 skips on the moserbaer when i saw the mov in the dvd player.. (its a phillips dvd622) & zero skips on the sony...
wat i would like to know is which is a better media out of these two which i can use for archival purposes.. that will last me atleast 20-30 yrs...i want it mainly for video purposes only....
the mid for the moserbaer is MBI 01RG40 & for the sony is SONY16D1...
also both the dvdrs which i used are -.. wil it make a diff if i use +..
ive read on the forum and they say that there is hardly any diff in + & -...
wat do u guys suggest????

There's indeed a difference between the -R and the +R format. The +R format(only + format medias)can be booktyped into DVD-ROM whch increases the compatibility with stand alone players. But booktyping depends on which drive you're using to burn your media as some do not support that feature(as mine which is the pioneer DVR-111EXL,and yet no hacked firmware available to make this possible). And if your drive doesn't support that feature then i would suggest you to use the -R format as it's more compatible than the +R format(if not booktyped) with stand alone players.

If you use +R media(without booktyping)to back up your movie there's the possibility that the movie freezes or skips while viewing it.

It's sad that you don't have Taiyo Yuden medias over there as it is one of the best media and if i'm right depending the way you store it(if proprely) can last even for more than 20-30 years.

But don't you have verbatim over there?because i know that some verbatim come from India and Verbatim is an excellent media too next to taiyo, except the one which is made in japan and by japan it means that it's made by the same Taiyo and thus same quality, but if come from other countries, they remain very good medias.

But if i were you and if were to chose only among these two medias you mentionned,i would go for the sony one.But try to see if there's really no verbatim over there.Who knows, may be you can get lucky and find some!

Have a nice search!

If you can find sony 8x Made in Japan it will be Taiyo Yuden. Also I would definitely reccommend Sony over moserbauer, moserbauer is crap media whereas sony house media is good but if you find Sony 8x MIJ it will be Taiyo yuden which is the best.
