Hi I am planning on buying some Verbatim DVD+R and DVD+RW discs and I wanted to know which ones would be the best. I am prefering to buy 16x speed but I'm not sure which is the best quality Verbatim to buy or what the media code and dye code would be for it or where it was manufactured. I would really appreciate it if I could get some recommendations from people.

Many thanks
Michael

Verbatim uses Advanced metal azo dye, just like taiyo yuden.
+8x= MCC-003
+16x=MCC-004

Can't go wrong with either one. The +8x are getting harder to find. For my Benq's,I have to burn the +16x at 8x or higher for best results. Those babies were designed to be burned better,at the faster speed. If you get the +16x verbs,be cautious of slow burning. I'd get the 8x if I could easily get them.

The main thing: With the newer 16x media, some burners may not recognize them. This means they may need a newer firmware version for their burner.Slim chance for that happening, especially on older burner models.

Majority of verbatim +8x and +16x are made in taiwan. Some in japan, and some in India. All their manufacturers use Verbatims strict quality control standards.Just look on the outer spindle label for the country they were manufactured in.

Verbatim Dual layer media is made in Singapore, and is the best DL media out there. I threw that one in for future purposes.

I believe there is a sale on verbatim at Best Buy for $15 a spindle of 50. That's the top price I pay for my quality media.

I don't know about Verbatim RW media. Hard to come by my way.

Saugmon pretty much gave you all the info you need to know...

I've only used the 16x Verbatim DVD+Rs which are amazing. I regularly get better results with the Verbs 16x than my TYs 8x, but that's just what my burner likes.

Thanks for relpying quickly saugmon. I was just wondering if there is any difference from where the DVDs are manufactured. I remember hearing that the ones made in India were of a poorer quality. What one do you think would be the best out of the ones made in Taiwan, Japan and India. If anybody could advise me on what code of Verbatim DVD+RW that I should buy I would be very grateful.

Many thanks

About your question concerning which one of these three countries'(Taiwan,Japan and India) media is the best,i would without any doubt say that the Japan one is the winner. In case you didn't know, those verbatims made in Japan(coded TYGs or YUDEN000T0..) are Taiyo Yuden's medias, which are highly qualified as the best media on the market.

But those made in taiwan and India(both coded as MCC) remain good media though.Verbatim is among the few brands(if can say the only one) where the quality remains decent even if they are manufactured in different countries.Their standard quality is very high regardless to where they are made. But there has been some reports where people have complained about the quality of those made in India, but it's not always the case some even get good results with them too.But about those made in Taiwan, they can be qualified as excellent media too, next to the Taiyo Yuden.

If i have to grade them i would give the 1st place to the one made in japan, the 2nd one goes to Taiwan and lastly the 3rd one to India.

But me personally,i use the 8x verbatim DVD+R(coded YUDEN000TO2) and on all the burns i 've made till now, zero problem.

From what i've learnt, those made in Japan are unfortunately not available everywhere, except in U.K,Japan(of course)and from where i am(in Shanghai),but i consider myself really very lucky as even here,it's really hard to find them. Most chance you will find those from taiwan which are still ok.
But now if you want to taste the sweetest of the sweet, just see if you can get taiyo medias(even if they are not branded as verb). To be sure that you get the genuine ones, just follow the indications that you will find in the first page of the following link:

Have a nice day!

P.S:Almost forgot the verbatims made in Singapore, which are dual layers, these medias too are ok.

Vincent.
