Hi All,

I am new to Taiyo Yuden's I have used Ritek G04's in the past, last time I bought blanks approx a year ago I bought 500 of them so I have not had to need to do any research !!!

Now it is time to replenish my blanks and I hear that Taiyo Yuden is the way to go !!!

I am really confused as to which ones to get...I

found these:

http://www.supermediastore.com/taiy...a-100-pack.html

and the price seems to be right...how can I tell if they are real or fakes ???

Are these "good" ones to use...it will beused to archive movies and general data ??

Any suggestions would helpful..Thanks in advance...shkj

I don't think you'd have any problems with Fake Taiyo Yudens with Supermediastore.com or Meritline .com or Rima.com Then it just comes down to speed & whether you want Premium line or Value line Taiyo's both are Genuine & made in Japan Both will have The same media codes for their respective speeds & formats DVD-R or DVD+R the only difference is The value line disc are a little bit off in measurements maid on high tech equipment that Taiyo yuden has But still excellent media by any standard ! It's like when intel or amd are making Cpu chips they pull the ones that spec better aside and rate them higher ! also the value line media is almost always tape/shrink wrapped while the premium line are normally on spindles/cake boxed ! but sometimes the premium line is shrink wrapped too ! you could'nt go wrong with either IMHO ! GOOD luck & happy shopping!

@SHKJ

nice to see that you have opted for Taiyo's media.You can't find any better than that.You won't be disappointed by Taiyo media,whatever the format it is.But if you want a tip,i would advise you the + format as it is best suitable for data storage and for movies.And most important is that it can be booktyped into DVD-ROM,thus offering greater compatibility to any stand alone player(old ones as well as new ones).

But first you should check if your drive supports booktyping/bitsetting.If not,then better use the -R format as it offers better compatibility on stand alone players than +R format(if not booktyped).

About supermediastore,though i never purchased anything from there(because they don't ship to where i am),i can say that you'll find gunuine Taiyo medias there,that's what i've learnt through AD and a lot of members do buy their medias there.

But to be sure about the genuineness of Taiyo Yuden,just follow this(copied from DocTy's thread on Taiyo Yuden media)

Taiyo Yuden rated speed & format/ media ID coding / inner hub reading

4x DVD-R = TYG01 / GD00xxxx
8x DVD-R = TYG02 / GG00xxxx
16x DVD-R = TYG03 / GH00xxxx

4x DVD+R = YUDEN000T01 / i don't know cuz i don't have any :P
8x DVD+R = YUDEN000T02 / TG00xxxx
16x DVD+R = YUDEN000T03 / TH00xxxx

But according to some members there are quite a lot of medias pretending to be taiyo ones and even have their media ID coding same as the genuine ones.But the only way to be really sure is to check the inner hub coding.If it doesn't correspond to the informations given above,then you can consider it being fake.

You definitely are making the right choice in choosing TY media.What can i say more,wish you happy burning once you get your hands on these blank medias!

p.s. i really should update the inner hub coding thang in my thread, but just so people know here, i got my hands on a few pieces of the 4x DVD+R (from "old stock" in Japan actually) and will confirm they have a TC00xxxx or TS00xxxx coding~ :)

@DocTy

Thanks Doc!I'll take that as a compliment.

I owe you and also not to forget,other members in AD for what i've learnt and what i'm still learning everyday.To tell you the truth,i keep a sort of notebook where i note down all the important things i come across in your thread.If can say,you're like a teacher for me and glad to see that there's still people like you and other members putting their knowledge at the disposal of others in need of advices and answers.

But before i give any advice to anyone as i just did,i think twice before posting the reply as i don't want to put any kind of misleading or wrong advice.But if it happens that you or any other members notice any mistake from my side please do correct me,i'll welcome your corrections with great appreciation.

What i'm doing is just passing the informations to those in need,same as when you passed these to others in need.I'm just following the good example!Sharing the infos is much better thing that to keep them only for oneself.

have a good day!

Vincent.
