Hey guys. I bought an XBox that is broken with error code 5. I have NO idea how to unlock the drive. I do not have the eeprom or the hard drive password. Is there any way, that anyone knows of, where I can get this drive unlocked without having to purchase a modchip? I only have about 27 bucks wrapped up in this thing, and I was hoping to fix it so I could resale it.
I do have another XBox that is modded with a larger hard drive. I thought that perhaps I could take the original 8GB Hard Drive from my box and put it in the one I bought today. I didn't know about all the eeprom crap, so of course it didn't work.
So does anyone have any ideas? Any programs out there besides xboxhdm that I might could try out to unlock this thing? Maybe even something that may totally delete the hard drive so I can use xboxhdm to rebuild the xbox partitions. Please help if you can guys. I greatly appreciate it.

I guess you didn't get what I was saying...
The hard drive is locked and the XBox is NOT working. I can't do ANYTHING with it. That includes trying to apply a softmod or running any program on the XBox. As soon as the XBox comes on, I get error 16
Any other ideas?

if u feel up to it you could try reading the Eeprom chip but you have to remove it from your xbox mother board other than that all you can do is hot swap

so what i can tell, it will boot up to the logo, that is where your getting the error code, if so, do a hot swap, that should get you into your hard drive, then you will be able to get the eeprom key out of it and go from there!

Oh... I see. Well, I'm not booting to the logo so I doubt if hotswap will work for me. I really don't understand the hotswap method much anyhow. But I did read somewhere that said if you didn't get the microsoft logo to appear, then your box could not be hotswapped. Right now the box loads up and shows the big X. Then it immediately goes to error 06.
Another problem I have just encountered... for some odd reason, the disk drive won't work anymore. I have checked to make sure it is plugged in and it is. I can't open it or anything.

the logo appears right under the big x for a second or two, then you get the error code page! if your not getting that like you said, my advice would be a chip! save time and trouble!

I already tried the chip and it didn't work either. I honestly believe that I have messed this thing up pretty bad with the whole chip method. Because now the disk drive won't open at all.

There is no way I am going to try and build that. And I don't believe I will be sending my XBox to anyone that I don't even know. The shipping alone would be way to much to worry about. I'm just going to go ahead and sale this piece of shit on ebay. Thanks for your time anyway.
