I recently modded my ps2, i put a DMS4 S.E. Lite in it. Had a few problems at first but now it works like it is supposed to. I burned SMT:Nocturne onto a Taiyo Yuden DVD+R at 2.4x and it runs flawlessly. So then I figure I'll test ps1 backups. So I burn Lunar: SSSC at the slowest speed my burner will burn cd's(which is at 12x). I try to boot it up and it shows the ps1 logo screen a hangs, can't get past it. So then I figure I'll try a different game, I burn Grandia and it seems to work. It gets past the ps1 logo screen and shows the opening FMV, but it freezes when I try to select the load game option and in other various areas.
At this point I figure that maybe it is the media I'm using. I had been using Verbatims, which I though were good. Verbatim used to be one of the top brands, but I guess somewhere along the line they switched to CMC Magnetics for their manufacturer, which is one of the worst manufacturers, and is what I happen to have bought. So I just knew that had to be the reason my backups weren't working.
I order a stack of Taiyo Yuden CD-R's from newegg, and three days later it's here. So I go and burn Lunar, I get the exact same problem. I burn Grandia, exact same problem.
My burner is a Plextor 740A. I've got a good burner and good media. The ps2 plays ps2 originals/backups and ps1 originals absolutely perfectly with fast load times. It just has trouble playing ps1 backups, and it's not an authentication problem. The one thing I can think that it might be is that burning at 12x is too fast. I would burn at 1x if I could, but the slowest my burner will do is 12x.
Try burning a bit faster? I talked to a guy earlier who said that he burnt a CD at 8x and that didn't work, and he later tried 16x and that worked fine...
I just tried to burn it faster. I put the disk in and it starts to spin making lots of weird noises, like the disk was hitting something, then it got really loud and I hit eject.
