Can anyone tell me anthing on this one.

I can Put CD-R disks in My PC DVD/RW Drive All day & copy my files straight on to them ( The 700mb Type).

But if I put in a 4.7 Gb DVD-R disk I just get told that Free Space available is none & I Cant Record anything on them.

My PCs Packard Bell 3.06Ghz - 1024 ram - 160GB Hd - Pentium 4.

Thanks from john. :o)

Hello.

Windows has native support for CDs but not DVDs. Blank DVDs will usually show up as CDs in the OS because of this.

What software are you using to burn DVDs? It would also be helpful to know the brand and model of your DVD burner. The important info is the name of the burner listed under DVD/CD-ROM Drives in Device Manager. If you have and use DVD Decrypter, the name of the burner as well as the firmware version appears in the top line of the righthand column when in ISO Write mode with a DVD in the selected burner.

Hello M0use.

It is very hard for us to provide help when we don't know the programs you're using, the brand, model, and firmware versions of the burner, etc. There is a very long thread here dealing with the same problem: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/350168. As you can see, we are able to provide advice to many people but only after we have some rather detailed info.

Hello again, M0use.

Do you have any Roxio software installed? If so, uninstall it and run the Roxio Zapper. Nero and Roxio drivers can conflict.

http://tools.roxio.com/support/tools/roxizap.exe

Run the Nero 6 or Nero 7 (depending on the version you have) Clean Tool to remove Nero. Be sure to write down your program serial number.

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/Nero_6_CleanTool.html
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

Then run the Driver Cleaner Tool and the Registry Checker. Pay attention to the instructions on the linked page.:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecker.html

Reinstall Nero version 6.6.0.18 located here:

Pack 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

Pack 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

or Nero 7.0.8.2 located here:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845

You need to also check for firmware updates for your burner. The newest I find at the firmware database is DONA available at the site linked below. I don't know what version you have now. You'll have to check that in DVD Decrypter or another program. It follows the name of the burner on the top line of the right hand column in DVD Decrypter in Write mode with a disk in the drive.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1827

You can also let DVD Decrypter attempt to locate any firmware updates for you by selecting Drives... from the Tools menu and selection Check for Firmware Updates....

If you've used Nero since the problem first developed, it would be a good idea to post the NeroHistory log back to this thread. You need only to post the section that deals with a failed burn due to finding no medium. Nero maintains the log for the last several burns attempted. Each section begins as follows:

====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
Your name (delete before posting)

1A***************** (your program serial number, delete before posting)

Windows XP 5.1
IA32
WinAspi: -
ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004

Be sure to delete the program serial number and your name before posting the log.

If all this fails, set a system restore point prior to when the problem occurred if possible.

OK. The drive only burns +R and +RW media. That appears to be the problem in this case.
