I'm trying to burn a backup of Poolhall Junkies, but after ripping the movie, I only have the 5 VOB files. There are no IFO's or BUP's. I can get these files to play on PowerDVD though. DVDshrink won't open the files (the folder size is about 4.9 gb, too big to not compress). So i've tried using DVDrebuilder/CCE to compress it. I've also tried using Folder2iso and DVD Decrypter in ISO write mode ( i tried this first before realizing that the files were just a little too big for a 4.7 dvd). I even tried using this last method on the compressed DR/CCE files.

Anybody got some help?

much appreciated, thanks,
chris

I'n not familiar with the title so I don't know what level of copy protection it has.

Try ripping the DVD with DVDFab Decrypter. See if DVD Shrink will open those files. If not, process the files ripped by DVDFab through either FixVTS or Vobblanker and then see if DVD Shrink will open them. Links to software in my signature.

without considering copy protection (btw if I can watch the VOBs on PowerDVD on my pc, has the copy protection been circumvented?), can I burn the VOBs without ripping the movie again? I;ve lent the original to my brother right after ripping assuming that I'd be able to watch the backup (also a test to see if the backup comes out good), i can get it back, but easier if I can just burn the VOBs

thanks again,
chris

edit: whoops, I forgot about your suggestion to process thru xxxxx & xxxxx then try shrink again. I'm definitely gonna try that, but am hoping there is maybe a more straightforward way of going from VOBs only to watchable DVDR---thanks

Hello again.

What program did you rip with initially?

There should be files other than VOBs in the folder. There should be an IFO file, a BUP file, and VOB files.

You may be able to use IFOEdit to generate the required IFO file, etc.

I use DVDdecrypter and DVD FABdecrypter, but can't recall which I used for ripping this file. I have no BUP's or IFO's, only VOB's and some other file I can't remember (i'll have to check when I get home from work). Could the missing files have somehow been saved somewhere else?

I'll check out IFOEdit then too, thanks,

chris

Hi,
The source DVD is a original DVD of the movie? Did it have menu's, or was it just the movie? What mode did you use in DVD Decrypter to rip the movie to your HD? You can use IFOEdit to create the IFO files, and create BUP files from those IFO files (just copy, and rename to BUP, instead of IFO). What I'd recommend is get the DVD back, and check the folder (from My Computer), to see if the DVD actually has the IFO and BUP files (most likely it should, because without these files, it cannot work in a DVD player, because the DVD Player always operates with the VIDEO_TS.ifo to start). Let us know what you find out.

ok, so I have 5 VOB files and 1 IFO:
IFO: VTS_01_0 @ 76 kb
VOBs: VTS_01_1 @ 1.05 GB
VTS_01_2 @ 1.05 GB
VTS_01_3 @ 1.05 GB
VTS_01_4 @ 1.05 GB
VTS_01_5 @ .99 GB

Right now I'm running FixVTS on the original 5 VOBs; it seems less complicated than IFOEdit (but I'll try that next). we'll see if that works

@DiRect: It was original dvd, but I didn't watch to see if it had menus or not.

Thanks,
chris

Hello.

The missing BUP file would be a copy of the IFO file with a BUP extension. BUP = backup.

If you ripped with DVD Decrypter, you might have had it set to only rip IFO files instead of all main movie files.

Hi,
Yes, that is why you need to select File Mode in DVD Decrypter and make sure all the files are selected, and it's set to rip everything (movie + menu's + extra's). Let us know of the results.
