is there any way to make DVD Shrink go throught the encoding process faster? it takes so long... its taking an hour just to encode saving private ryan...and its been taking other movies between 30-40 mins ... and then it takes lessthan 10 mins to copy on the disk...
I assume you are doing the full disc. That's a long movie and it will take a while to recode it. Just remember speed is you enemy when recoding/encoding movies. Start the process go to sleep or do something else; leave your pc alone while it works.

There are a few things you can do to speed up the process.
1) do a disc clean up
2) do a defrag (hdd)
3) Shutdown your firewall and antivirus
4) do a registry clean up
5) Leave the PC alone till transcoding has finished (that means the internet aswell)
6) have nothing working in the background
7) turn off all themes (wallpapers, screensavers etc..etc...
8) customize your performance options
9) do a virus, adware, spyware scan
Things to do if you know what you are doing:
10) disable windows help
11) disable system restore
12) disable all themes and visual effects
13) disable automatic updates
14) uncheck remote assistance
15) disable windows firewall
If you dont care about picture quality turn off advanced analysis and the AEC setting.
Like brink22 said use Nero recode. Out of all the transcoders I have tested Recode gives the better picture(not by much when compared to shrink)) and it's quicker.
It also depends on your PC specs, processor, HDD space, and ram. Saving Private Ryan is a hefty movie compression wise, it will come in at 49% compression, it will take Shrink awhile to get through this, especially if you have not ripped it first. Ripping to your HDD first will take less time encoding then ripping directly from disk.
i know what you mean about analysing on dvdshrink...on some, analysing movies take 45min...others take 1hour or more...sometimes it depends on how many files on the dvd you are analysing...in my setup i have the deep analysing turned on with the box below it set to maximum sharpness..all in all it takes an average of 2to3 hours for a session but it is a clearly noticable difference...again you dont even have to analise, but i dont reccomend it, the picture comes out all notchy...but like pazzini above me said, always try to reset, defrag, for best quicker results
