Sound Only Coming From Rear Surround Speakers

I have a VCD, when played back on my stand alone surround sound DVD player the sound only comes from the rear speakers when in Dolby Sorround.

The audio is MP2 44Kz dual channel, 224kbps layer II.

I have extracted the audio with Virtual Dub, recoded the audio with beLight to stereo, and re-burnt it, and it made no differece (I didn't think it would, but i'm out of ideas)

There is a bit of echo in the sound track, could this cause the problem??
If so, how do I get rid of it?
