Hello Mandis78.

It appears you may have encountered some structural copy protection.

There are several approaches to backing up DVDs.

The first is a totally commercial approach using software from other companies like Slysoft and others.

The second uses a combination of commercial and free software.

The last uses all free software.

For now, I would suggest you download AnyDVD. AnyDVD is a program that runs in the background to remove copy protection. It has a 21-day free trial so you might as well give it a try.

http://www.slysoft.com

Here's a guide for backing up DVDs using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink which you'll be able to do with AnyDVD running..

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20Decrypter&Shrink.pdf

This should get you going for now.

A totally free approach is described here:

Post back if you have questions.

Hey Mandis78,

What is the name of this DVD movie that is giving these errors? I am curious. It might have a special protection it. If you tell us the name of the movie that your having problems with, we all can better assist you and tell you what is going on. without the name of the title, we cannot do a single thing.

OK?

@Mandis

Did you download and install AnyDVD? What programs are you using and in what order? I'm not sure which approach you're using.

I leave AnyDVD going and use DVD Shrink to burn. It states cyclic error on the movie The New Guy and AnyDVD wont recognize burnt Dvds.

Is there a red fox head icon on your taskbar?

Place the New Guy in your burner. Allow AnyDVD enough time to analyze it, a few seconds. Double click on the red fox. Does AnyDVD list the protections in place for the disk.

CRC (reading) errors can be due to scratches and other defects in the disk. The New Guy is an older title so it shouldn't have any heavy duty protection.

Are you using good quality media to burn? What are you using? Are you burning at 4X speed?

Do I need to use AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter all at the same time?

The red fox head just means AnyDVD is active and on the job. It's greyed out when it's been deactivated.

With AnyDVD active, you should be able to place a DVD in the drive and DVD Shrink should be able to analyze the disk. You then should be able to re-author and/or compress the disk and have DVD Shrink output an ISO image file. Open DVD Decrypter and under the Mode menu, select ISO Write. Set your burn speed to 4X. Make sure the name of your burner appears in the Destination menu. In the Source menu, locate the name of the ISO file you outputed from DVD Shrink. Click the hard disk icon on the bottom left to initiate the burn.

or follow these guides (there are lots of ways to do the same thing):

Download DVDfabdecrypter, the latest verion will get around the copyright protection. DVDdecrypter is no longer any good for newer movies.

The poster is using AnyDVD so DVD Decrypter will work just fine. Also DVD Decrypter will work with any kind of copy protection with the use of a PSL file. Ripit4me uses DVD Decrypter and there isn't anything it hasn't been able to rip successfully that I'm aware of.
