Here is the update:
Instead of using dvtool, go and search and download the DivXLand bitrate Calcualtor version 2.0; from divx pro 5.0.3 and up, encode as two or three passes with multipass nth pass and make sure you choose a profile, preferably the Home Theater for most home uses, and make sure Psychvisual Enhancement, Enable Crop, Enable resize, and Preprocessing Source are all disabled (do them in the filter section of the virtualdub); and also Quarter Pixel and GMC are also disable; BUT Bidirectional Encoding should definitely used: it should definitely used (if that is not enough, do a search with the phrase "divx pro 5.0.3 settings" or "encode with divx pro 5.0.3" with Netscape or Google; and do not forget that when resizing and/or cropping, both of height and width must be a multiple of 16; and use new deinterlace plugin filter like the 'area based deinterlace'; and finally, when saving file, save it as ONE file name only, not the filename_firstpass and filename_second pass like the old divx pro 5.0.2 requires; and final finally, when splitting large file into smaller size, do not forget that it all must start and end with a key frame (one that marked with "k"); and that is all there is. Ha !
Im wondering if or when afterdawn updates their divx guide, will they include steps on how to use the EKG program that comes with the newest version of divx. Im sure many people will find this beneficial...
Or will they skip the vfapi part of the divx guides and switch over to using avisynth to frameserve the d2v files.
