Alright, I have my new DVD burner for my PC and with Clone DVD and Any DVD and its working great to back-up my video library but now what to do for the stuff I want to record off TV and make permanent copies to keep of things I've stored on the DVR. Am I best off with a DVD recorder with HDMI like the new units from Samsung or Panasonic (I need a new DVD anyway since my old one isn't even Progressive scan) or getting a Dazzle USB adapter to run video into the PC?

Dazzle, which I have, will do the job to transfer but the quality will be low grade. Not DVD quality. sorry.

How low grade would you say the quality is? I know that's subjective but are we talking pretty good just not the best image quality you could get out of a DVD or a noticeable downgrade in PQ from what I'm seeing playing back directly from the DVR?

Do you think I'd get better picture quality from a standalone DVD recorder? The output on the cable co's DVR is set up for a VCR so it is RCA output only, if that info helps.

do you remember analog recordings of music and then CD digital came out and it was crystal clear...... that's the same thing that will happen with the Dazzle approach.....from DVD clear to cloudy not so clear picture! Can't really discribe it any otherway. sorry.

Thank you for the info. I just have one clarifying question that may make my decision or leave me with the same dillema I started with. Maybe you or someone else here can speak to the difference. Since the only output-to-record option on my cable box/DVR is 3 RCA and every DVD recorder I've seen has the same input or S-video with RCA audio can I expect any better picture quality with recordings made off that analog connection?

NO! sorry. On large screens you will see poor quality... the smaller the viewing screen the bettter it seems, but who wants to watch on a 5" screen? LOL
