whats format dvd-r?

when you want to burn a bin file do you burn it with a DVD-R or DVD+R ?? im unsure right now, but if someone could help me i would be very thankful...

You can use either format but the most common to standalone players is the -R format.

i tryed it using the Alcohol 120 program, but it wouldn't except the DVD-R disk but once i put in a cd-r disk it worked. Only thing is it will only play on my computer and not my dvd player. thanks for the help.

A bin file is an image file, that can either be an image for a CD or a DVD.
It would appear that what you are burning is a CD image, which explains why it wouldn't work with a DVD. It does not matter whether you use -r or +r when burning an image, this is only an issue of what your DVD burner supports.
I'm assuming what you've burned as a result is a Video CD. You'll need to find the video Files from the Disc, put them back on your Hard Drive and re-author them to DVD.

If it is a VCD or SVCD complient movie (if it is a movie you downloaded) then more then likly your DVD player will play it. But again it might not be a VCD or SVCD. We would need to know more about what kind of files are in the BIN file. You can extarct the bin file with ISOBuster and see what is in the bin file. Then let us know what you are dealing with and we can go from there. It could also be a compatibility issue with the brand of CD-R you are using. If this is a compliant video source.

hey thanks for all the help
i downloaded the movie (cue/bin) format. one downloaded i dragged the cue image to Alcohol 120 and used the image burning wizard. Then i placed a DVD-R in for burning at 8x, but it prompted me with empty disk(dvd. thats when i used the cd-r and it worked fine, but it would only play on my computer via windows media player. For my xbox 360 dvd player wouldn't recognize the disk.
at this point i should try the isobuster?? where can i get that program?

So the description of the file at the website never said what type of Video file was in the bin file?
I would assume it is a video file if your trying to play it on your DVD player.
You can see what files are in the bin file by using ISOBuster.
Aagain if this is a VCD/SVCD video then your DVD player should bebale to play it. Most DVD players do. But to double check I would look up your DVD Model # and make sure it does play CD-R/VCD/SVCD discs.
Again it also could be the brand of CD-R your trying to use. You could also try to get a CD-RW and try.
Allot of diffrent options to choose from.
So download ISOBuster and then bring the cue/bin file into it and see what is in the bin file. That way you should bebale to know if it is VCD/AVI etc etc format.
Once you find out whats in the BIN file report back here and let us know. Somone should bebale to point you in the corect direction then.

can this be converted to a iso so i can burn it with DVD Decrypter or alcohol.

A tool called UltraISo will convert .bin to a .iso format. The software offers some type of limited trial period. I think the web address is www.ultraiso.com. Hope this helps.

It seems to be in VCD format. So either your player dosent play VCD or your player is not compatible with the media brand your using.

it wouldnt play on my xbox 360 or my dvd player, but it did play on a APEX dvd player. YUP you were right it is a VCD thanks for all the help.

FInd the model # of your DVD player and look it up on the internet. See what type of DVD/CD is compatible with the player. Also make sure you can play VCD/SVCD on your DVD player. Most will let you do it. You might also find a list of media brand that works best for that player as well.
