I have burned over 300 dvds with my currents dvd burner. but i havent been able to succesfully burn a dvd in a few weeks. ive tried using dvddecrypt, Nero and clone dvd to burn , and nothing is successful. i was using verbatim 16x and i just got verbatim 8x and that still doesnt work. i burn at 2.4X always/ i use AnyDVD with dvdshirnk to rip to my hard drive. then use one of the above software to burn it. im starting to think its my acutally burner but im not sure because it burns cds perfectly. any tips/ideas of what could be wrong. here is my latest Nero log

Hi maskeeta
What's changed (pc or media wise) since the last time you were able to burn?
Most of the errors in your log No seek complete & write error
can be media related. Your firmware is up to date & your using good media but your drive is not recognizing it. It only sees that it Media type: DVD+R . Your log is missing the manufacturer & media info.
To try and rule out the burner I would try some different media like made in Japan only Fuji or Sony. Get no higher than 8x.

You might also want to try cleaning the lens w/ a dvd lens cleaner.

Check your drives connections too - make sure all are secure.

Physical memory : 510MB

Good total ram - 71% in use so try and free up memory.
May not help this problem - but better to get as much free as possible.

thanks. not realy sure what has changed since it stopped burning. im gonna try to clean the lens and see what happens. i wonder if i should try re0nstalling the dvd drive/hardware. i guess after burning 300+ its gonna take its toll. im hoping its a minor issue though. havent been able to figure it out though

Depending on the drive - 300 is a fairly low usage. Though there are lemons w/ any brand.
I'd do the lens cleaning bit.
Check all connections to the drive - make sure they are secure - power and ide connectors. May even want to try another power connector.

Runs a registry cleaner too if you haven't recently. Try ccleaner:
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Do a disc cleanup and system defrag (may not be part of the problem - but good to do anyhow)

You can do the uninstall too - Uninstall the drive(tdk) in device manager - reboot then let windows do it's thing and reintall.

Then try different media.

Keep us posted on your outcome - good, bad or otherwise!

@maskeeta
Just my little understanding is that there are 2 lasers - one for cd's and one for dvd's. The cd one could be fine.

To get to device manager just right click on 'my computer' then pick properties>hardware>device manager.
Here's a guide for DMA and IDE controllers but it also goes into uninstalling the drive. You might want to try uninstalling the ide and then drive.
No disc is needed - windows should reinstall on rebooting.

Did you try another power connection?

if ye have another computer with burning software ,install the drive ye do not need to install the burner software as windows will see the drive..now test the dvd burn thats the best way to check if ye burner is bad...

Hi maskeeta
Ireland gave a good point - might want to check in another pc 1st.

Your ide cable could be faulty too.

Other thing to try:
Disconnect the JLMS (LiteON DVD rom?) from the master connection - put the TDK in it's place (make sure you change the jumper pin on the back of the drive to master also)
Now see what happens. If all is good than put the other drive on the secondary connection (again make sure the jumper pin is set to slave).

I'd check that & ireland's suggestion 1st b/4 buying a new one.

Try that and see how it goes.
Sometimes replacing the drive w/ a new one doesn't fix the problem - not saying it won't in this case - but best to try and rule out all possibilities.
Keep us posted

18. Why do I get a 'No seek complete' error message?

This error can be caused by the following:

Old firmware on the recorder - Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder. An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures. Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorder?s firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.
For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder and instructions on how to upgrade your recorder?s firmware. Same goes for all other recorder manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, etc...
To determine what kind of recorder you have, assuming you do not know for sure, you can use our Nero Info Tool to obtain this information. To locate the Nero Info Tool, follow the steps below.
For Nero Burning ROM 6 or Nero Express 6 go to:
'Start -> All Programs -> Nero -> Nero Toolkit -> Nero InfoTool'
For Nero Burning Rom 5.5 or Nero Express 5.5 go to:
'Start -> All Programs -> Ahead Nero -> Nero Toolkit -> Nero InfoTool'
Once Nero Info Tool is launched, make sure your recorder is selected in the top left of the window. Use the drop-down box located there to select your recorder or any recorder. Once selected, it displays the manufacturer as well as the model of the recorder you have. Be sure to make a note of this. Also, once you have your recorder selected, you can click on the 'DRIVE' tab and in the top right of this window you will see the current firmware version (among other information) you have on your recorder. Compare this version with the latest firmware provided by the manufacturer of your recorder and upgrade if available.
Legal disclaimer:
"Nero AG is not liable for firmware updates as these updates are not offered by Nero AG. All updates are performed at one?s own risk. Nero AG will not be liable for the legality of the firmware."
Poor media - Try more than one brand of media. For example: TDK, Verbatim, Imation, Yamaha, HP, etc.
Poor IDE cable or incorrect cable - For higher end recorders these days if you use the 40pin cable you can have all sorts of unusual symptoms. It would be best to use an ATA-133 80 wire cable.
Driver conflicts - If you have or had another CD recording software installed on your system, its drivers could be conflicting with our software. This is rare for this symptom, but it does occur. Uninstall any other recording software and make sure all its drivers have been removed with it. Then reinstall Nero and make sure to use the latest version we have posted on our website.
Defective recorder - The optical head on your recorder may need cleaning or servicing. Or it's possible the circuit board on your recorder has an open coil or blown diode or resistor. Any of these could cause the error. Only solution would be to send the drive in for service to the recorder manufacturer.

@maskeeta
What program of Roxio do you have installed? Like what is it listed as in add/remove programs?
When you say it been doing that for awhile - I take it you've tried to uninstall before?

I can't find one specific to 6. When you try & uninstall Roxio from add/remove programs in control panel - are you given any options - like update, repair, uninstall (not normally are but just checking).
