So after playing some PS2 games at my friends house, I can say easily that my PS2 can't load PS2 games as fast as my friend's, or normally anyway. At his house, I pop in a disc and it loads in less then 5 seconds. With mine, it can take up to 10 seconds. Is there anything I can do? I'm thinking that dust may be a problem, since I haven't cleaned or touched the inside for the 6 years I've had it, so how can I clean my laser without ruining anything?

And since I installed a HD on my PS2, I can't reset my PS2 when I put in some discs. For example, when I put in my Max Drive CD, and I'm done transferring saves, it won't let me reset the PS2 in front, no matter how long I hold the button or how many times I press it. It lets me eject, but I still can't do anything, so I have to turn it on and off in back. What could be causing this?

Try cleaning the laser lens and adjusting the laser, you'll probably need to open the console depending on what you want to do.

As for the HD, not too sure what the problem is... I know you can only turn off the console and not reset it when you are running a game off the HDD, but don't think there's problems with loading games from discs?

How do I adjust the laser? I don't have any experience, so I don't want to mess it up. I don't even think I have the tools.

and let me just add this, be VERY CAREFUL when you do this.
A lot of people just take out the screws and rip off the top cover not noticing that the ribbon cable that goes between the reset/eject button goes between the top and the bottom, then they just rip it right out.

that and take your time, this process is not quick. You have to turn the laser one notch at a time, put the DVD Drive cover back on with the 4 tiny screws (which you will need something small like an eyeglass screwdriver to remove), then try it to see if a few discs load and play well. And keep repeating this until it reads everything. (CD's, DVD's, PS1, PS2)

also might as well get some cotton swabs and lens cleaner and clean the laser since you are right there. Alcohol can also be used for this but i prefer lens cleaner.

Thanks for all the tips, I'm going to try tommorow (I don't have time today) and see how it works out.
