Installing Windows XP on 2nd HDD

Hello, this is probably a pretty basic question for most people, but I have never tried this and want to make sure I don't lose anything.

I currently have two hard drives. My primary (C:) drive has Windows XP on it. My secondary (J:) drive only has files (videos, music, pictures, etc.) I believe my C: drive will fail anytime because it's making really loud noises and it's running a bit slow at times.

Anyways what I'm wanting to do is install Windows XP on my secondary (J:) drive without having to format it and then turn it into my primary drive. I'll take out my current C: drive and use an external case for it whenever I want to access the files on it.

Is this possible without formatting the HDD? Do I just stick the Windows XP CD into my drive while Windows is on and install it from there... or is that even possible?

did you creat two partition on j drive or one.if only one than windows will overwrite that drive.

Only 1. Well I actually went ahead and messed with it for a while and I got Windows XP isntalled on it and it didn't delete any of my files. It gave me the option to install it leaving all of my files intact rather than choosing some way of formatting it. I just got everything up and running about 5 minutes ago and it seems to be working great.
