Hi guys and gals. I'm just getting started and have a question.

I got the Sony Dru-500AX and flashed the firmware so it's up to date. I then tried to burn a few DVD's at 4X with Ritek 4X media but the burn was at ~2X and took 31 min.

Just wondering what media people with the Sony Dru-500AX have been using and got a true 4X burn.

I had the same thing happen. I was burning at 4X with cheaper media after I bought the drive. Then when I installed the lastest firmware...ZAP...no more 4X burning.

Guess this is how Sony gets you to buy from their "preferred media" clients.

Sorry, but I haven't gotten any of the cheaper media that burns at 4X since the "upgrade".
