What exactly is puppetlock and arCoss (SP?)? I was just wondering since a lot of new DVDs have these protections. I use RipIt4Me, Shrink, Nero, VobBlanker, DVDFab, Decrypter, etc.. I just want to know what I am dealing with so that I can become more efficient at ripping DVDs and being able to figure out what I need to do when I encounter these protections.

You answered your own question. The aforementioned names are new types of encryptions. Older programs like Shrink can't handle them on its own, hence the newer programs.

If those programs works as they should, a user shouldn't need to understand it. IMHO.

Puppetlock is just another variant of ARccOS, which is bad mastering sectors. Here is some reading...

Puppetlock (ARccOS) or RipGuard issues? There are tons of FREE tools and methods that can easily bypass flawlessly.

** DVDFAB Decrypter
** RipIt4Me (DVD Decrypter + PSL)
** VobBlanker
** FixVTS
