Yes funny thing indeed. I was having a hard time after a few GOOD years with this program. Most of you have posted similar problems. Like for instance my computer in my case kept stalling out. In the past I had to defrag or just stop running any back ground programs all together.

This time I needed to keep my programs running so Shrink wouldn't stall out. When was the last time Shrink updated itself. No wait it can't do that. Does anyone know if a new version is coming out? And if not what other programs can compress ISO and or Video TS?

DVD Shrink has not been updating nor will be updated anytime soon(Never), however if u have Nero you can use Nero Recode2 which is just as good as shrink if not a little better. as far as free transcoders go im not sure if there is anything out there.

What do u use to rip the movies?

DVDFab decrypter(Free) http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

will do all of the new movies that have came out, then u can use shrink as usual and burn with any program.

300 bowler is correct, shrink will never be updated.

I only know of $$$$ programs, CloneDVD 2, Recode2, DVD2One, shrinkto5, and for encoders DVD-Rebuider Pro with CCE, Procoder2, HC18, AutoQmatEnc. (HC18 and AutoQmatEnc are free encoders, but you will need DVD-Rebuilder free edition to get them to work)

Although you can use the free version of DVD-Rebuilder with HC18 encoder, as long as you have the time as it takes longer to do.

To rip I'll use DVD Decrypter or any dvd. I have notice that Shrink has been giving me some problems with stall outs recently. I'm wondering if by applying an external hard drive. If this would relieve some stress off my internal drive?

I think I will pick one up even if it doesn't help my occasional stall out because it's good to have.

What are the error messages you are getting with shrink?

That's just it. I'm not getting any error messages because my CPU just freezes. Sometimes 5 percent into encoding or ripping .So I had to shout it off manually and start over again.

That can happen when the disc you are trying to copy is encrypted with an encryptoin that shrink can not handle. Rip with DVDFab Decrypter (free) first then open shrink to compress.

I'll give it a try to see what happens. So would you consider DVD FAB decrypter better than DVD Decrypter?

DVDFab Decrypter will handle all the latest movie encryptions as where DVDD can not as it is no longer updated. They are both programs that no one should be without.

16 blocks and The Matador. One more question. Does Fab allow for ISO IMAGE ripping and burning?

DVDFab Decrypter does not burn it just rips the entire movie onto your HDD(the free version anyway)

@ Snatched,

no DVDfab will not rip In ISO, only Video_TS folder with Individual files, but after u rip the movie u can create an ISO output with shrink to burn with BurnIMG or decrypter

Here is the combo i used and made 100% perfect backup of those movies

1.DVDFab decrypter(Free)
2.VobBlanker(Free) http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm
3.Shrink(Free) or Recode2(Pay for)
4.IMGburn or decrypter(Both free) or Nero(pay for)

Here is a guide for that combo
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154

More info guide for VobBlanker
http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/article_vobblanker_page1.html

i would advise u to use the VobBlanker prog if u r doing a sony/Colombia movie but it is not needed most of the time.

Why blame a program when your computer seems to be badly working? If you can't get DVD Shrink to work - I doubt you will get a similar program to work either.

WTF... You cant use any HTML tags in here...

Thanks 300bowler for the information just downloaded IMGBURN.

@Cynthia

I'm not blaming DVD Shrink. I find it to be an excellent program but since my CPU seems to be acting up on OCCASION. I was wondering if there was something else out there to try . Something that may not cause MY freeze up.

I'm still going to purchase an out board hard drive just to see if this will take off any unneeded pressure on my CPU.

Shrink is a funny little program for me. Yesterday I was able to compress the two movies in question using it. This time while having all my normal programs running like the Internet.

I am taking notes and maybe I could help someone else. If they experience the same situation (smile)

So far the only recommendation I can make is to let your CPU start up completely. Wait for all programs to load before shrinking.

If that doesn't work shut off the CPU and once everything starts up again. Shut off all unnecessary programs like screen savers, Wifi, etc.
