Ok, well I just fixed my PS2 saving me a few dollars, now I was wondering if anyone can help me on wheter or not I should buy HD Advance 3.0. . . Well, I am thinking of buying a 300 gig HD, I check compat list and its all good. . . But I noticed that HD Advance 3.0 supports up to 200 gigs, does that mean it won't work on mine? I would do all the little exploit things, but I am getting really confused on all of it, and yes I am a noob. . . So any reccommendations or ideas? please and thank you's.

I am using HD Advance 3.0 with a Maxtor 300 GB hard drive without problems. I formatted with HD Advance right out of the box and received the max 279 gigs with 276 gigs available for use.

The theoretical limit for HDAdvance 3.0 is 2TB from memory, not 200GB

http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/?p=drive&did=3858

That is the review I did for the PS2 Hard Drive Compatibility Chart. It has the drive model number and all other information you will need. I got my drive from outpost.com for 69 bucks and I got HDXtreme for 35 dollars delivered to my door. I converted some games to the hard drive using the playstation, I sent some games to the hard drive using HD Server and a network cable, and I sent some games to the hard drive by hooking the hard drive up to my computer. I think I have 40 games or so on the drive right now and have only had a problem with one game. I can't get Street Fighter Alpha Anthology to work right. I think I have read that it won't work from a HD unless you have the official sony ps2 hard drive.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

Oh BTW....I think the HD Advance website says that HD Advance 3.0 can only be used with 200 GB hard drives and that USBXtreme can be used with hard drives up to 2TB hard drives. I was skeptical at first about using the 300GB hard drive but I checked all the compatibility websites and asked a few questions on here and a few other places and was reassured that it will work with my maxtor. I then decided to give it a shot and installed it. The hard drive was recognized right away and formatted out to be 279GB with 276GB available to use for game storage.

How do you format the HD for the ps2?

@Paiin
You don't need to buy HDLoader - just swap magic (HDLoader is free, you can get it from http://www.sksapps.com/ )

All you have to do is hook up the hard drive to the network adapter (make sure you have the drive jumper settings set to master)and install it in the PS2. Then insert your HD Advance 3.0 disk into the PS2 and turn the power on. HD Advance 3.0 will find the hard drive and advise that it needs to be formatted. Click ok to format the drive and it should format the drive in about 1-2 minutes. Then you can proceed to install games using your ps2 laser, using the HD Server software and a crossover cable from the ps2 to your computer, or you can hook your computer to a hub/switch and then hook the ps2 to the hub/switch and use the HD Server software, or you can take the drive out of the ps2 and hook it up to your computer (direct IDE connection or IDE to USB connection) and install games that way using DVD Decrypter and WinHiip. Hooking the drive to your computer is the quickest way to transfer games to the hard drive but if you only have a game or two to put to hard drive then one of the other methods isn't bad.

I can not hook it into my comp, as in install it, but where would I get a hard drive connector to USB adapter? cause that would be easiet, and using the other programs.

Dan168,

I read that thread and didn't see where it says how to play SFAA from the hard drive. I was able to make a backup of the game on DVD-R media that works fine on my chipped PS2 but when I made an ISO of the game and moved it to my hard drive on my unchipped PS2 I can not get it to work. I boot up the ps2 and it goes to game select screen. When I select SFAA it gives me a message saying that there is an error with my hdd and that it needs to be fixed. it then lets me go to the SFAA game screen where you can pick the game you want to play but when i click on one it hangs at the loading screen. All the other games work fine. I'm stumped

oh yeah what did you mean about watch for that double post?

Paiin,

you can purchase an IDE to USB 2.0 adapter off of ebay or from many of the online computer accessory stores. It should run about 15-20 bucks shipped for an adapter with an external enclosure.

It seems like you can't play street fighter anthology on the HDD (from the link that I gave you)

Read the forum rules re. multi-posting: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487 it basically means replying more than once before someone else replies to either bump the thread or increase your post count :) the mods hate that and if you do it enough you'll get kicked out :(

Yeah that is what I gathered from that thread too lol. I guess I will be stuck playing from the original disk on the un modded console and can play the back up on the modded console. From other forums I have been on, they classified a double post as two posts with the same information in them. I assumed since I was making a new post with different information it would be ok. From now on I will just edit my first post and add the new information to it. Thanks.

Forum rules: 12. Repeated posts to increase total number of posts is not allowed. Especially if your message is the last in the thread, edit it rather than post a new message.

Yeah editing it is the way to go, it saves people from having to scroll through a lot of pages as well. Nothing worse than going through pages after pages of posts only to find that it's someone replying to themselves :)
