I have an hp 840i with the latest firmware on a WinXP. Some of my memorex/sony 16x will burn at 16x and then they will burn at 4x.
I've check the ide and the DMA is available. i've tried re-booting, removing the secondary IDE and still no luck. Any ideas?

Mate the reason why your havun issues is because you are using the worst kind of media, simple as that.

Try getting your hands on Tayio Yuden or Ritek media they are good media to back up your movies on.

Memorex media is known for quality control issues. I would attempt to use another brand of media. In the event that you do not hwant to mail order your media Maxell, Fuji Japan made) or verbs are a good option.

I've said it a million times already: just read the horror stories here about the memorex brand.

When using Sony, make sure they are MIJ (made in japan). Quality discs will operate the way they are supposed to.

My goodness!The number of complaints on Memorex keeps on getting bigger and bigger!That's the results in using the worst media ever,today it's fine and tommorow it SUCKS!Just like it's name MEMOSUX!

Use the good stuffs,like TY or Verbatim,they are simply the best out there!
