Hi folks
Just to let you know that my epson r220 arrived today and i have had a lot of fun printing covers and discs etc all day.
i would like to thank everybody for their help and advice with regards to which printer to buy- i feel that with your help i have made the right choice!
So this was just a quick note to say cheers and let you know that all is well in the world of my printing (at the moment anyway!!)
Just have one question for anyone who owns an epson 'r' series in the U.K. What ink do you use (at the moment i am using compatible ink) and if it is compatible ink then which 'brand' is it and is it any good- basically i would like to know what ink to use if i dont use epson (i realise that epson may be of a higher standard but i aint got the cash to part with atm so am looking for a good quality but cheaper alternative.)
cheers

Hey malfnkton.............
Glad you are enjoying your new Epson. It really is a great printer. I'm not sure what ink you have access to in the UK. The generic ink I got last time I ordered was RiDisc brand. I got it from Supermediastore.com, or Meritline.com ...........I forget which one. This ink is working well in my R200. I have no complaint with it.
Some people have trouble learning how to adjust the center hole size, in the printing setup, for "print to hub" and "print to center" difference. If you need any pointers with this, let us know............ :o)
Enjoy!

Hey JVC!
I take it you are talking about the disc printing when you refer to the centre hole sizing.
when i first set it up i thought this would be tricky- all i did was adjusted the measurement in the epson print cd template by 'eye' and did a test print- i think i got it pretty much spot on as it prints right to the centre and i cant see any evidence of ink on the cd tray or on the centre of the disk (i.e the see through plastic bit.)
I think that is what you are talking about- if it is something else that i have not yet encountered then could you tell me a bit more about it?
Also ta for the info on inc- will have a look and see if it is available in the uk.
If n e one is in the u.k and knows of this ink, where to get it or any other ink that is could i would love to know!

With the Epson Print CD software open, look at icons on left side. There should be a yellow or gold colored disc icon there. Click on it. In the window that opens, click on "Custom CD".
Below that, you should see "Inner Diameter", with a slider bar beside it. In the space provided for the number, in mm, set to 18mm - 20mm, depending on the discs you're using.
Below that, you should see "Outer Diameter", with a slider bar beside it. In the space provided for the number, in mm, set to 118mm. That should work for about all discs.
The Inner and Outer Diameter settings, may vary, depending on the discs you're using, so you may need to adjust it, after printing one. After you have printed a couple of each kind of disc (print to hub & print to center), you should be an old pro at it.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Do you (or anybody else) happen to know what the correct sizing is for printing onto verbatim DVD-R 16x printable disks?
Just thought that someone on here may have already used these disks and so figured out the correct sizing already.

For those of you who are using the Epson printers, are you scanning in the cover you want to print, or do you D/L it from somewhere else? One of the reasons I ask is that I have a fair number of burns I did on Memosux (before seeing the light) that I plan to copy onto good printable media (my wife recently boght me the R220) and I don't have the picture.

cheers teflonmyk i will tap those measurements into the cd printing software.
@ tsquare- i download the disks/covers from www.cdcovers.cc . they have a massive database of all the different covers and disks available and its totally free!
All you got to do is resize the disc in your cd print software to fit the template and hit print- the results are wicked!

I scan some and download fromm cc covers also freecovers.net, covers.to covers.box.sk and albumart.org As stated above 119 x 22 on the Verbs. Ain't these printers great.I burn the kids Cd's and DVD and put there pictures on them with the title of the disc really helps avoid conflicts. Chris

I scan my disks and when there isn't a pix i like on the disk I will download from Cdcovers.cc. I have the Epson R320 If you scan them like this:
notice I adjusted the scan to just inside of the rim of the disk.... this will fit perfectly in the Epson PrintCD program without adjusting. I scan and descreen and blur the image to perfection:
then you get quality prints like these:
hope this helps others ..... I get perfect fast quality prints all the time!

@Ihoe
Why do you blur them? Obviously, I haven't done any yet, but I'm not sure I understand the blurring. BTW, yours looks good.

I'm not IHoe, but............
A slight blur, will soften the edges, and make it look more photographic. If you are copying a pic, that had a halftone screen used, when producing it, the blur will help hide the dot pattern of the halftone.

All this makes intersting reading!
Any ideas on what percentage of blur you would use in the epson cd/dvd software (i dont have photoshop or anything like that).
I just this second had a go at printing a disc using this blur technique however i get white 'edges' and 'inner circle' parts where the image begins to fade in/out (hope u can understand what i mean). Yor discs IHoe dont seem to have this.
Just wondering if u can blur to get the better effect but not get these bits of white trim?
I use 16x DVD-R verb printables and have got the measurements right in the epson software.
So do tell- How is it done? lol
