Hey, I started to make safe back ups for my dvd collection due to some getting scratched up. I have alot of perfect condition dvds and when I go to copy one.. I am getting an error message.

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot contine.

out of memory

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Now I have a brand new computer. I have a Systemax with a

Intel Celeron D 3.2 GHz
512 ram
128 ATI raedeon video card
Windows XP Pro SP2

What is really going on here with my DVD Shrink 3.2?

What, me, Worry?

You probably ran into a newer DVD which DVD Shrink cannot handle due to newer encryptions. Shrink has not been updated for over a year.

Try this guide for all newer DVD's.

Which title are you trying to back up?

Like it was already mentioned, it's probably just a newer encryption Shrink can't handle.

This should help you out

This is what to do if you are having trouble backing up your movies:

Here is the free way of making perfect backups:

1) DVDFab Decrypter - this wil break the movies encryption while ripping the movie to your HDD

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

2) VobBlanker - Not always needed, but it will get rid of any protection that DVDFD left behind. VobBlanker also allows you to blank, replace, cut and strip titles.

http://www.jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

3) DVDShrink - this will allow you to compress the movie to fit onto a blank DVD-5 disc. Select your output as an ISO image

http://filehippo.com/download_dvdshrink/

4) Imgburn - the best free burner around

http://www.imgburn.com/

Here are some guides:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154 DVDFab Decrypter and VobBlanker guide by Alkohol

http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/article_vobblanker_page1.html VobBlanker guide

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/ Shrink guide

The other free option:

Use RipIt4Me. I do not know anything about ripit4me so I will leave you with the excellent guide by arnibear. You can also download it from the same link

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110

The other way $$$$$

AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie. All you have to do is start up AnyDVD and continue using your normal compression engine, whether it's shrink, recode or CloneDVD, It's that easy.

Before you pay for this excellent program you have a 21 day trial

http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

What else to do if the above does not work:

1) Update your dvdwriters firmware

2) Invest in good quality media Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims are best

3) Burn@4x

4) Check your dvd's for dirt, scratches

5) clean your dvd

If your dvd still does not back up, you most properbly have a badly authord dvd, so your only solution is to exchange it.

Didn't expect so many responses so quickly. Thanks for all the info. I am trying to back up some anime movies. Mahoromatic: something more beautiful, Tenchi Muyo: Tenchi in Love, and Anger Management ( <-- Yes, I am not a total Anime fanatic.)

I'll get the downloads for the firm ware to be careful and give it no reason to give me crap. I'll get the programs to handle anything that comes and I'll keep reading all the articles I can get my hands on so I know what the sam-heck I am doing. Heck, I will even go down to wally world and get a dvd cleaning kit. The lens cleaner, disk cleaner, disrepairer.. and well.. I have a bundle of Phillips DVD+R 1-16x DvDs. I wonder.. Does Lite-on Have to do with it? I kinda was cheap.. But not desperate.. I wanted a nice midgrade dvd burner.

scoob981,

I was getting tired of writing the same information, so I made a word document with all the information I know on how to get a dvd copied. So instead of loads of little posts I do one big post with all the information needed to help members go in the right direction of backing up there original dvd's.

So all I do now is copy and paste. It saves alot of time. :)

edit: spelling, I need a new keyboard mine is possessed :p

you said you were getting tired of saying the same things over and over again, so you made a word document. that was pretty smart on your part. me i just get tired of reading over and over again the same question. i just wished more member would just do a search and all of their questions would be answered. i got my buddy to become of this forum. the first thing i told him if he had a question was to do a search first. i just more people would do that. just ranting a little. guess i am in a bad mood today. sorry nothing against anybody.

"Out of Memory" is a well known RipGuard protection, so I highly recommend you follow those links by pazzini. Read them carefully and you'll be a happy camper in the end. Below are a few FREE tools that will rip any dvds (yes... even new released).

<<< Free Rippers & Edit tools >>>

** DVDFAB Decrypter
** RipIt4Me (DVD Decrypter + PSL plugins)
** VobBlanker
** FixVTS
** PgcEdit

Good luck and have fun burning.

those Philips 16x DVD+R are pretty poor media for starters, they could be CMCMAGM01/INFOMER30/PHILIPSC16/ or the slightly better RitekR05s :) also, a Liteon drive has nothing to do with it, but the current firmware for your burner WILL (once u get to the point of actually BURNING the dvd after ur encryption issues are dealt with)

what make/model is ur Liteon burner?

long time we haven't crossed paths Alkohol~ good seeing ya~

I would like to report some sucess.. The dvds I was trying to copy.. I gave up on. I took them out of my tower and I realized.. who ever gave them back to me.. Royally hosed them up! I saw more scratches on the dvds than a teenager catfight.

model#'s for lite on drives

52x CD-RW/ 16x dvd rom: SOHC-5236V06C
-x DVD-R/w +/- Double Layer Drive: SHW-P6S10C

I installed and read and did as I said. I managed to get a unscratched copy of Predator two to copy. I have two copies of the movie now. But the bad thing is.. That it takes me 2+ hours for one movie.... start to finish. There anything I can do to speed things up?

congrats on your success, check to make sure your DMA is on for your drives, more than likely it's fallen back into PIO mode which may well be the cause of your slow backup times~ :)

good luck
