Hello All,

I've been backing up my discs for a few weeks now. My PC has had no problems at all reading the retail discs that I'm ripping from. All my copies play fine on all 3 of my home DVD players, but some of my copies are getting a "No Disc" error on my PC. Not all of them, but some. Also, If I keep ejecting the disc and restarting it I can sometimes get them to play.

Now here's the funny thing... I can play ALL my backups with PowerDVD, even when DVDShrink & Windows Media Player have the "NO Disc" error.

Any suggestions?

First and foremost, what brand of media are you using? That could be the reason for the inconsistencies.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I wouldn't worry about it too much since they play on 3 different standalone players and on pc with powerDVD. I'd say the discs are fine and the WMP is defective as with a lot of MS sh#t. BTW you are using the best media.

Sometimes the laser lens is dirty. I have 2 stand alone dvd players/recorders, a toshiba and a panasonic. Id given up on them ever recording to, or reading a disc, as they wouldnt read any -R and very few +Rs booktyped to DVD-ROM. Cleaned the lens with one of those small brushes on the disc type cleaners, and now im recording on the panasonic that kept saying "illegal disc" and playing on the toshiba that kept saying the same thing.

Just a thought.
The other thing is you may have some codecs out of date or missing/corrupt.

Well, my concern is that DVDShrink says "No Disc", therefore if I want to make a copy of a copy... I'm having trouble.

Why didn't you say that from the start that you were trying to copy a copy. A indicator of a bad copy is the inability to make a copy of it.You need to give us all, new information. What is the brand of disc you want to copy; is it a TY or are you gonna burn the TY. Have you tried using decrypter in ISO mode to copy the dvd? Nero Xpress will also copy it, IF the copy is quality. Go Back to original and make a new copy and see if it is copiable.

All of my copies are TY. That's all I use. I don't think they were bad burns because they have played on every player I've tried them in, & they will also play with PowerDVD on my PC as I stated before.

I just can't get DVDShrink or WMP to read the discs. I even tried playing the Disc with PowerDVD, Minimizing the screen, then opening DVDShrink & It still states "No Disc".

Even with the Disc playing I can go to "My Computer" to see what is in the drive... It reads it as a blank disc.
