Will a used hard drive work in fat ps2?

I have a fat ps2, and an old Seagate 40gb hard drive. (It originally came with my pc.) Im new to the backup scence and was interested if i can install this into my ps2 and run games off it.

as above, as long as it is on the compatibility list you should not have a problem.
MOst IDE ATA100 type hard drives will work.

Thank you for the link. I checked my drive and about 15 people have reported it works.
Now one last question: How do I go about deleting all the content on this HD? Should I, a) attach it to my pc and use a program to wipe the files, or b) attach it to ps2 and let hdloader delete files. (can it)?

No sure how HD Loader workd, but i would think there would be a feature to format the drive, do that and evrything will be gone.

There is also a program called Winhiip for the PC that can do it.

I'd say connect it to the PC and format it using Winhiip, and install games using that while you are at it

Fully right.

One more thing make sure it's good. If your pc cant format it using winhiip u might have a defective HDD. So dont even bother to try format it using ur ps2.

My ps2 has a used drive. I used that driv in my pc untill i upgraded and put the older drive in my ps2 no problems
