Up to around 1.5Gb for XP. Though I highly recommend that you do not upgrade from Me to XP, but rather do a totally new installation. If you do an upgrade, you can change from FAT to NTFS later, but if it's new you'll have the option during setup.

I did it on an older computer and it worked fine, but was pretty slow. Make sure you have a good enough processor and enough RAM and it should go OK; As far as the conversion, Windows took care of it OK. Good luck!

It might be hiding on one edge, try dragging from the bottom and then from each side, it might just be "off-screen". Is taskbar there, just no start button? then I wouldn't know what that meant.

also there is a feature in Properties of the taskbar, that lets you auto-hide the taskbar. Keep tinkering with the edges, see if it appears

actually nothing at all is there, but when i hit start on the keyboard i dont see it anywhere, but my shortcuts usually on the bottom are offscreen on the bottom right cause i clicked them accidently, i would assume it would be on the top right but isnt. is there some way in control panel or something to fix this? sorry for the trouble and thanks.

try right-clicking on your taskbar if you have it and go to properties, it will let you do many things. If you don't have a taskbar, I don't know what to tell you. Good luck

When you installed XP did you immediately install all of your other machines chipset drivers? Motherboard drivers, sound and graphic cards? If you didnt you are running on generic microsoft ones and they may give problems.

That's information passed down to you from experience, not ego. There are a hundred million reasons why upgrades don't work properly...really, you should start new.
