I could burn CD's at 24x with Sony 1x - 32x SUPREMAS CD-R's (CDQ80N3) using a NEC NR-9700A CD-RW and Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum. Using the latest Sony 1x - 48x CD-R's (CDQ80N5) I can now only burn at a maximum speed of 8x ?
I have updated Easy CD Creator to the latest release (version 5.3.5.10) for version 5 and updated the drives firmware to version 109B but still can only burn these disc's at 8x.
Is this a conflict between the CD-RW and Easy CD Creator or are the Sony 1x - 48x CD-R's incompatible with the drive? Sony seem to have changed the dye they use recently. The CD-R's are now silver instead of the previous light-blue/aqua-marine colour, could this be the problem?
I am running XP on a Dell Precision 530 workstation. A similar machine running W2K doesn't even see these new Sony discs...
Any suggestions to get me back upto speed would be welcome.
Could be the brand media you're using as I've used several brand media types for my Polaroid BurnMAX48x and couldn't burn max speed. My suggestion, try another burning application and see if you burn the same, slower or faster. Some freebie burning software.

Be sure that you've enabled DMA mode (not PIO) in the Atapi\IDE Channel (primary, secondary) located in Device Manager.
