Hi guys
I have been told by my mod shop that a modbo 2.1 mod chip is not suitable for a V7 & this is what he said: [It is quite known that Modbo 2.1 cant go into version 7. Major compatibility issues] Is this correct? Reason I ask is he modded my friends V9 with the modbo & it works much better then my V7 & they were both midrange chips & cost was same. Mine does not read as well as before the mod but in his favor he said he can amp up my laser to make it read better. Will this put undue strain on my laser ?
Looking at the spec for this chip, it's compatible with V4-V13, but I don't know the details of the problem (if any) with a V7...
Reason it's not reading as well is that the laser is dying - yes adjusting the laser can make it read better, because the laser's drawing more power, but it also means the laser will probably die out faster... so your options are basically:
- adjust the laser, make it read better, at the cost of probably dying out faster
- not adjust the laser, harder to read, but will probably last longer (having said that, the laser is going to work a lot harder to try and read discs, so it'll put a lot of strain on it anyway)
Also probably don't need to tell you about what media to use :)
Hi Dan
Yes media is Verbatim & Ritek 8x & burn @ 4x & so on .Went thru all this with the mod bloke. Then he reckons decypter not good enough & I should use Alcohol 120% or Record Now Dx strange thing though the Ritek's not bad with decypter & Verbs OK with Alcohol 120% As for the laser it was reading OK before the mod.
Thanks Dan
Any body else know if this chip not suitable for the V7 ?
Well in my humble opinion the Modbo chips are not suitable for any PS2
Too many people have problems with them for one reason or another because they are just a cheap clone of the Matrix Infinity chip.
If it read fine before the mod, and doesn't now then i would have the person who modded it fix it. They should stand behind the work they do.
The V7 had a very good laser, mine has been running strong for years now. I have cleaned it but have never had to adjust it.
The media you are using is good, the burning speeds are correct so it looks as if you are doing everything right. DVD Decrypter works great regardless of what your "mod guy" says. I have used it for years for both PS2 and Xbox games and have never had it fail me yet.
So it may just be that Modbo chip creating all the problems.
My suggestion is spend the extra money and get a DMS4 Pro or even a real Matrix Infinity chip. I would go with the DMS4 Pro if you ever think that you may want to add an internal hard drive which is a great thing to do.
Thanks Steimy
As usual excellent advice & it just reinforces what I have learned from this forum. Yes I should have spent the extra for the chips you mentioned but my finances did not permit this & I have HdAdvance 3 but only a 60g h/d & the mod was same price as a decent H/d & I am not sure he put a Modbo chip in mine,it shows nothing on the screen @ start up just PlayStation 2. My friend has a Modbo 2.1 in his V9 & all my backups work fine in his mostly done with Decypter, but not my GT4 rip which works in mine. My main question is what the 'mod guy' said
"It is quite known that Modbo 2.1 cant go into version 7. Major compatibility issues"
all i know is what i read about them, and all the sites i have seen say it is compatible with V7 asky them directly if they will respond.
