Trying to convert a svcd to vcd but i can't open the file on tmpgenc. It says can not open or unsupported. I'm sure i must change the environmental settings, but have no idea what they are... can anyone help?

hmmm ok, well i think you need to get an mpeg plugin or codec for tmpgenc to do that, can i just ask exactly why you want to do that, is it because your dvd player wont support svcd??

http://www.marumo.ne.jp/mpeg2/ there is a plugin for tmpgenc on this page for converting mpg2 to mpg 1, the page is in japanese but the file you need is called m2v_vfp-0.6.36.lzh , what u need to do is extract the contents of the zip file into your tmpgenc directory, then run the m2vconf.exe file, leave the settings on default and hit ok then run tmpgenc as normal, this should sort it out.

Lila, have you ever tried a VCD header trick to save the problem of re-encoding to MPEG-1??

Yeah, I did but never really got it to work...
I wish it did, cuz that way i wouldn't loose quality on the files.

try creating a vcd with all the settings as standard except for the bitrate, increase this to about 1500 (from 1150)(dont go higer than 2300).Then just burn it to a disc(s) using Nero/Vcdeasy etc,etc as a normal vcd.

That actually causes a lot of speed problems on playback in a lot of dvd players! mine for instance, at 1600kb/s MPEG-1 played much slower than it should! But with a VCD header trick it played perfect, which is strange, might have something to do with the fact that its MPEG-2 maybe!
