try cleaning the disc surface, update the optical drive firmware, and if that doesn't work try a different optical drive

isn't opening as in physically not opening, or not opening the files? you need to give a lot more information if you want any help...

you should be able to see a very small hole somewhere on the front panel of your optical drive (2 of mine are next to the eject button and 1 is on the other side so it really depends on what optical drive you have), use a pin or something to push that in, and your disc tray come out
some older drives have problem reading PS2 game discs (the DVD reader on my laptop doesn't like it very much - I always use my external DVD burner to read PS2 games), but like I said, try updating your firmware (link above) and give it another try

is it a CD drive or DVD drive?
What you posted isn't much help... go to device manager (right click on 'My computer", properties, hardware, device manager), then open the one that says DVD/CD-ROM drive and see what's inside and post it here

download DISCInfo (this can be found under the utilities page in the link I gave you), open it and go to View:Firmware Updates, then search, that should bring you to the appropriate link for your drive

could be that the hardware is just too old... if everything fails then a new DVD burner would be your best bet, good thing those things are really cheap now

almost all DVD burners you can find are good quality, go for a well known brand (LiteOn, NU tech, BENQ, Samsung, etc etc) and you can't go wrong there

there's no such thing as a burner that's good for game burning... it's either good for everything or not good for everything.
I have a samsung and a nu-tech DVD burner (both 16x with DL support) and have had no problem with them
