i am completely new to dvd recorders as i have never had 1 but i was wondering if there is a function that allows to burn disks from the recorder in data files (avi's etc), rather than the .vob files that are generally created from dvd's.

the reason is i want to put them on my pc and edit them if need be. or can u sumhow extract the avi(or however they have been encoded) from the dvd format that is burnt directly from the burner.

also can u hook it up to austar(Australian cable tv) and record that? while watching another channel?

im looking into buying one but want to get sum good quality info before i buy one.

what format does the recorder store in its memory when it records directly from the tv?

please help me :D lol
