hi:

I have been using Shrink a longtime in conjunction with AnyDVD. I've always had problems re-authoring a movie and not getting the subtitles. Now normally I uncheck all the subtitle and extraneous sound streams but some movies have subtitles that you need when a person is speaking in their language and you NEED to see the English translation.

A good example would be Kill Bill. The part where Uma Thurman enters the bar and the bartender and the helper are speaking in Japanese. My original movie has subtitles in English when they are speaking in Japanese. I have tried checking the English subtitle stream and I also have in prefernces, the hide audio and subpicture steams of insignificant size UNCHECKED. I believe (I'll try it now) that if I do a complete backup, not a re-author, it should work. Can anyone help? Regards...

When you reauthor Kill Bill, Vol. 1 using DVD Shrink, you'll notice that there are two English subtitle options. To keep the English subtitles for only when they're speaking Japanese, check the first one (0.38 MB) and uncheck the rest. The second English subtitle option (1 MB) will display English subtitles throughout the entire film.

hi:

As luck would have it my son has my original Kill Bill so I can't check that now. I am backing up a movie called End Of The Spear. It has 4 subtitle streams. 1. English (captions normal) 2. french 3. spanish 4. english. I have tried checking the first english, then the second english and both englishes and nothing works. I remember having the same problem with Kill Bill Vol.1. I think I solved that problem by having decrypter create the ISO file and then reading that file into shrink. If that worked then it doesn't work now...very frustrating.

As I said I think if I backup the entire movie it will work but this movie with Shrink doesnt have any compression as a full backup so its no big deal. but as we know other movies with full backup can be compressed as much as 50%. Any other ideas? Regards...

hi:

I don't know why, but I have solved the problem, at least in this particular instance. I put a check next to both English subtitle streams and I only get the English translation when needed. I could have sworn I tried that before and it didn't work previously. Thanks for your time. Regards...
