I recently acquired a ps2 for free from a friend, he gave it to me becuz it doesnt read discs correctly. I am just curious as to how hard it is to replace the laser assembly in one of these. Do they even sell the assembly by its self or do I have to get a whole new DVD drive. Thanx for the help guyz !!! :)

Yes, you can buy a laser on its own, but it costs approx 2/3 of the cost of a pre-owned refurbished PS2 just for the laser itself, so not really worth it. You could fit it yourself to save on fitting costs, but you would need to recalibrate it for 1st use in the system.
