hi been looking on the internet about advice on sticking adhesive gloss cd/dvd labels on to dvd-r discs with an inkjet top surface.

is this is a bad idea ?

will the label stay on ?

will the glue affect ruin the disc in the long term?

has anybody done this ?

Its not a problem at all. Why would it be? The disk is read from the bottom, so any label on the top won't affect it. Use the CD labelling systems

have you ever labeled an inkjet surface?

im thinking more of, will the chemicals in the glue slowly react with the inkjet printable surface and cause my discs to be ruined in a few years?

The important thing is to make sure the labels are dead centre since if they overlap even by a tiny amount they can stop the disc from playing properly. If you get a decent labelling application such as Neato it should include a plastic round aligner that centres the label correctly on the disc

If you buy the lables specifically desinged for cd's or dvd's then you should be fine, choosing lables for other purposes really shouldn't be a problem, but you never can be too sure, so you should with the right application for which the lables are marketed for. In terms of ruining a disc, I have discs that are a few years old with labels on them(audio cds and some software) and I have yet to have a(label related)problem with them. You really should worry more about storage than the labels you use.

I've honestly never heard of that being a problem. My question is, however, why are you labelling disks with an inkjet compatible top surface anyway. That defeats the whole point of that particular surface
